London Eye - Sunday 23rd July

The day had finally arrived - it seemed ages ago that we had booked our tickets. Unfortunately the day dawned overcast and drizzly, and stayed that way all morning. We went to pick up our pre-booked ticket only tofind that they didn't have a record of our booking. Adam eventually convinced them that we had booked, and they gave us the tickets that we assume were ours. We had time for a welcome coffee in McDonalds before joining the queue to board.

The queue moved quite quickly and we soon found ourselves in our pod. Rachel thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and as the glass was from roof to floor had some good views. Ben slept through it all. Our guide gave us a brief idea of what we could see (but did state that it was better on a sunny day) before leaving us to wander around the pod to pose and take photos! I must admit that at times we felt like locals being able to pick out various landmarks or places that we'd visited.

On disembarking we walked down along the Thames to the New Tate Modern Gallery. We had a good wander through the exhibits. One famous painting we managed to see was Picasso's 'Weeping Woman'.

At times we felt that they had lost the plot as far as the definition of art goes. Some of the modern art was simply junk with an interesting tag line. You'd have trouble selling it at a garage sale. We are seriously thinking of going back and sticking one of Rachel's paintings on the wall!

As always Rachel looked forward to our trip home from the city as it always involves another train trip.
